Bar Fighter

This game is the first to portray pub brawls in their finest pixilated glory. The game will have a similar look to Capcom's Powerstone series, possibly including an homage to old 2D scrolling beat 'em ups.. However there are several extra twists that elevate the game onto a different level. You and your friends pick their characters (up to four human players) and the game starts with you all sitting down in seperate corners of a packed bar that is about to explode with violence. The fighting area is packed with usable objects, from glasses and ashtrays to the tables themselves; if it's there, you can pick it up. Everything is smashable, even down to the walls. Graphically speaking, the idea is that by the end of the fight, the 'arena' will be a total wreck. Snapshots could be taken of your greatest and most destructive fights. Like all beat em-ups, the different characters will all have their own unique special moves and advantages and disadvantages. Power-ups will also act differently according to which character that you're playing (see below)
Once the fights begin, the violence will spread according to who's hitting who. The big difference with this game is that there are loads of baddies, all on screen at one time. Obviously the graphics will have to be clear and crisp so you can actually see what's going on. When you're fighting someone, you are quite free to run around the back of them and punch them in the ear, for example. There will also be localised damage to each fighter; If you work over a certain body part (an arm for example) that limb will become less effective.
There are no restrictions and you do not have to fight 'face to face' as in Tekken or Virtua Fighter. The fighting style will be simple and logical: the controls could well bear similarities to the excellent system used in Super Smash Bros. Power-ups will appear in the form of different alcoholic drinks, each having different effects according to the character that you are playing. For example, the big burly guys might become really strong if they pick up a beer related power-up, but become complete clowns if they drink an alco-pop. Like in real life, the effects are cumulative and so combinations might result in different effects. There could be a sub-game where you invent new cocktails that have totally unexpected effects. (Although anything with red bull in it makes your character throw up violently.)
The game will contain about fifteen bar layouts, some of which are secret 'themed' bars. There will be fifteen characters to start off with, with extra secret characters to be discovered. Unlike most modern beat 'em ups, the emphasis is on fun and carnage. Speed and guile are qualities that Bar Fighting encourages: you can't win by button bashing, you need to know what you're doing.
