If anyone could break into the video game market, now so totally sewn up by Sony, it was Microsoft. But, truth be told, they were the last company we wanted in the fray. Microsoft? It might as well have been Yahoo!, IBM or even Tesco for all they know about gaming! If a computer company was going to enter the console arena, why couldn't it have been Apple? But they are far too cool to get involved in such a scuffle. Still, they managed to slice themselves a fair share of the gaming pie as gamers continued to lap up the polygon counting hype.
